Introducing two of our newest GP Partners

Two new GP Partners have joined our team this year. Dr Olufunto Ogundapo joined in February while Dr Sharon Grigson started in May.

Dr Grigson is looking forward to becoming an ‘integrated part of the community.’ It is her first Partnership role and she joined straight after qualifying as, after a career in various medical roles, she wants to put down roots in one place. She has been welcomed by colleagues who are a ‘really energetic’ team.

She did most of her medical training in hospitals and urgent care centres in London. She also studied anaesthetics and completed a Master’s degree in medical leadership and business development. She decided to become a GP due to the ‘flexibility and variety.’

She said: ‘With a young family I really like the idea of being an integrated part of the community. Being a Partner means that you can act on things that may not be working well, you can listen to what patients want and implement changes where needed. Partnership should also allow me to put things into practice that I learned in my Master’s degree and expand my skillset in a different way. I am pleased to have joined Oundle. My colleagues are lovely and friendly. It is a really energetic and enthusiastic team. I am confident that we can work through any challenges and it feels very positive.

‘I want to find out the needs of our patients then tailor my specialisms to what is most needed although I am particularly interested in wellbeing and preventative medicine plus how AI can be used within General Practice. It has been great getting to know the patients. In medicine you get used to moving placements quite regularly so this is the first time I have started a job and thought “I could be here until I retire!’

Dr Olufunto Ogundapo has been a doctor since 2008 specialising in family health, genito-urinary medicine, HIV and public health in Nigeria before continuing her medical career in the UK, with clinical research as a particular passion.

She said: ‘I am interested in how things work, improving the quality of care and patients’ experience. GPs put a lot of time and energy into understanding patients’ needs and the care pathways available, helping them to get the right treatment at the right time. Lakeside is an organisation that looks at things holistically and so, as well as patient care, they are involved in clinical research as well. This is a huge area of interest for me as I trained under the National Institute for Health and Care Research as an Associate Principal Investigator. I have had experience in research areas, such as HIV and this field of work is close to my heart because of the possibilities of improving and making new breakthroughs. So, as well as seeing patients in Oundle I will also work with the Research Team, which is also doing such wonderful work.

‘I recently qualified as a GP and I wanted to come to Oundle in particular for my first Partnership as, from the start, I had the feeling that this is a wonderful team working together. It is all about the patients, working as a team and also making sure staff are taken care of. Oundle is a lovely place, I have met many patients and everyone has been friendly and welcoming.’
