MRNA Seasonal Flu Vaccine
Join a clinical trial for an investigational mRNA seasonal flu vaccine
Lakeside Research is looking for participants for the Fluent Trial. This trial will see if an investigational vaccine may be able to prevent seasonal influenza (flu) for people 50 years of age or older.
About seasonal flu
- Seasonal flu is a respiratory illness, which affects the lungs and airways and is easily spread from person to person.
- It occurs every year, usually in the winter, which is why it’s also known as ‘seasonal’ flu. ( 1)
- Seasonal flu can cause serious illness, especially for older people. ( 2)
- In winter, seasonal flu can cause thousands of people in the UK to receive hospital treatment every day. ( 3)
About the Fluent Trial
The Fluent Trial will see if an investigational vaccine (a vaccine that is being studied) may be able to prevent seasonal flu. The investigational vaccine in this clinical trial is called mRNA-1010. It aims to protect people 50 years of age or older against seasonal flu. You cannot catch seasonal flu by having this investigational vaccine.
Who can join?
This clinical trial is looking for participants. To join, you must:
- be 50 years of age or older
- be in good health
- not have had seasonal flu within 6 months of starting the trial
What to expect
Your participation in the Fluent Trial will last up to 8 months.
You will have around 3 clinic visits and up to 4 scheduled phone calls with the clinical trial team
- You will be given 1 seasonal flu vaccine jab
- You must fill out an electronic diary (eDiary) regularly during trial participation
- Enrolling in this clinical trial is completely your choice. You can leave at any time and do not have to give a reason
Moderna will reimburse participants for their trial-related time and expenses (for example, travel), and the clinical trial team are on hand to support everyone who takes part in the trial.

Eligibility
To participate in the Fluent Trial, you must:
- be 50 years of age or older
- be in good health
- not have had seasonal flu within 6 months of starting the trial
If you do not qualify for an NHS flu vaccine, you may still be eligible to receive either an investigational or commercially available flu vaccine in the Fluent Trial.
